DANRVAN Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 Does anyone know how far back we can e-file personal returns with ATX when the system opens back up in 2022? I have a 2018 that just came in. Quote
TexTaxToo Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 The IRS will only accept e-files for the current year and the two prior years. So 2019, 2020, and 2021 at the most. 2 1 Quote
ILLMAS Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 I believe you will have to wait until they efiling season opens up again. 1 Quote

If the client wants proof of receipt, have them send a check with the return. Cashing the check means they opened it. Even if a refund is due... send 'em $5. But you probably already know. 1 Quote

However, this is for a deceased taxpayer with a small refund due and PR probably does not care to write a check to find out. I will keep that in mind for the future, thank you for the tip Catherine! 3 Quote

They will take forever to process a refund. I have also found that even when the 1310 is on TOP of the return, the IRS will claim they never got it, and you may have to send it again (ditto Form 56 - sometimes they'll lose first one and then the other, just to be extra special). Tell the PR to be glad it's a small refund; I had one family that had to wait nearly a year to get grandpa's $7k refund back in their hands. Good luck! 1 Quote

Randall Posted December 14, 2021 Report Posted December 14, 2021 I have several this year who missed the Oct 15 deadline. I'll prepare and file their 2020 returns. And a new client recently called, needs both 2019 and 2020, should be fairly simple. But I don't like to go back any additional years. Quote

Might be highly dependent on what center the returns go to. Quote
