Marie Posted November 17, 2021 Report Posted November 17, 2021 I understand this has been extended into 2022. I had no luck opting my clients out with the telephone number given for 2021. Might there be a box or form to opt out in 2022? I have many clients who don't want the ctc until tax time Quote
Sara EA Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 The advance payments end in 2021, so unless congress decides otherwise there will be no advance in 2022. Reminds me of years ago when IRS offered advance EIC payments so the money could arrive monthly to help with bills instead of all at once at tax time. After a few years they discontinued that option because of lack of interest. Anybody remember that? An issue this year will be that people will be surprised when their refund is lower than usual because they already got some of the credit. For example, if they normally get a CTC of $4000 for two children, this year they are entitled to $6000 but already got $3k, so the credit on their tax return will be $3k instead of $4k. They might notice that. I am so not looking forward to the coming tax season! 2 Quote
TexTaxToo Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 The current incarnation of the Build Back Better Act would extend the CTC changes to 2022, but that is far from law at this time. Quote
Marie Posted November 18, 2021 Author Report Posted November 18, 2021 Good, hopefully it will end in 2021. I thought I'd read where it had been extended. "Don't kill the messenger" Most want that big refund. 1 Quote
JimTaxes Posted November 18, 2021 Report Posted November 18, 2021 @MarieI hope it ends also as it would eliminate having to reconcile the advance payments received. 1 Quote
