Lee B Posted September 26, 2021 Report Posted September 26, 2021 If you use the Chrome Browser, make sure it's up to date due to several serious current security exploits. "Chrome is up to date Version 94.0.4606.61 (Official Build)" 3 Quote
Lion EA Posted September 26, 2021 Report Posted September 26, 2021 Thanx for the reminder. I just checked, and Chrome had not finished it's last update for some reason and told me to relaunch. Now it gives the above Version #. Quote
Lee B Posted October 3, 2021 Author Report Posted October 3, 2021 Due to several more current serious exploits, Chrome has released an unscheduled update. Chrome is up to date Version 94.0.4606.71 (Official Build) (64-bit) 4 Quote
Lion EA Posted October 3, 2021 Report Posted October 3, 2021 Thank you. I'm on ...61 so will update now. Quote
Christian Posted October 3, 2021 Report Posted October 3, 2021 I thought they updated the browser regularly. I just updated mine thanks. I had not seen any news about security issues with it but I am no techie. Quote
Lion EA Posted October 3, 2021 Report Posted October 3, 2021 I discovered that I do have it set to update. But there was a message that it needed to finish, telling me to reload Chrome. I was a bit surprised, because I exit Chrome each night and reload every morning. The update must've started today and was waiting for my next relaunch. All good now. 1 Quote
Abby Normal Posted October 4, 2021 Report Posted October 4, 2021 Neither Chrome nor Edge will update automatically for me, most of the time. I've resorted to putting the installer for both, right on the desktop, so I can update manually, whenever SUMo (Software Update Monitor) tells me there's an update, or whenever I see a news article about either. Quote
jklcpa Posted October 4, 2021 Report Posted October 4, 2021 I, too, had to start the update manually and was then prompted to restart the browser to finish the install. I find Chrome to be slower and so only use it for a few sites that won't work on Firefox. Quote
jklcpa Posted October 4, 2021 Report Posted October 4, 2021 (edited) I do have Chrome for Android on both my tablet and my phone, and both of those are still on ver *.61 with the notation as being up-to-date. Has anyone read about or seen a more recent version for mobile applications? ETA - never mind, that is the most recent version available for Android. Edited October 4, 2021 by jklcpa Quote

I don’t like all the snooping I’ve read about Chrome doing. Quote

Go ahead, rub it in, see if we care! (I think all of mine, that are going to be done before the deadline, have been submitted. There are always the one or two who won't send me back sig docs - and in a couple of cases, outstanding data docs - for weeks yet. That's on them, not me.) Guess it's time to break out the work on the longtime nonfilers again. Whee! 1 1 Quote

Lee B Posted November 18, 2021 Author Report Posted November 18, 2021 Another unscheduled update. Several different tech articles that I have read, say that there has been an unprecedented increase in attacks on all of the major browsers. So which ever browser that you use, check regularly to make sure it's up to date. Chrome is up to date Version 96.0.4664.45 (Official Build) (64-bit 3 1 Quote

mcbreck Posted December 14, 2021 Report Posted December 14, 2021 How many emergency updates do you have to go through before you think maybe the product itself is the problem? 1 Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted December 14, 2021 Report Posted December 14, 2021 I'm just glad that I don't use Chrome. I've been using Firefox for years and am pretty comfortable with it. There are occasional updates but nothing like I've seen with Chrome as reported by cbslee. 1 Quote
jklcpa Posted December 14, 2021 Report Posted December 14, 2021 I have 3 sites that don't work with Firefox and have been using Chrome for EFTPS, an online pharmacy for husband and mom, and for my own Vanguard accounts. What is everyone using to access EFTPS? MS Edge? Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted December 14, 2021 Report Posted December 14, 2021 I did have to use Chrome once to access E-services when IE no longer was accepted. But I forgot last week and used FF. It worked perfectly! I haven't had to use EFTPS for some time, thankfully. All this stuff is such a pain. Every time something like this comes up, I inch ever closer to Buh Bye. License expires end of 2022, two clients have bid adieu (although I had 6 new ones for 2021!), so all is tempting. I have said for some time that I work to go on exotic dive trips - HAH! Not a good excuse these days. Quote
Lee B Posted December 14, 2021 Author Report Posted December 14, 2021 For years I used Firefox, now I find it more convenient to use Chrome , even though I know they are tracking everything. Unless you are going to use a combination something like Brave and Duck Duck Go, but then that won't work for everything. Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted December 14, 2021 Report Posted December 14, 2021 I do use Duck Duck Go. It just seems that FF has fewer issues than the more widely used browsers. I'm good with the less popular things in my life - they tend to draw less attention. I will take a look at Brave, though. Just never heard of it before. Quote
