schirallicpa Posted March 29, 2021 Report Posted March 29, 2021 Farmer has exempt status for most anything he buys for farm. So when he buys sweet corn seed to grow and sell, why did he get charged sales tax for that. The vendor insists that because it's seeds its taxed. I agree - for any one else that is not a farmer. But most things the farmer buys are taxed. And he provides a tax exempt form 125 and doesn't pay tax. Is there an exception for corn seeds? Quote
ILLMAS Posted March 30, 2021 Report Posted March 30, 2021 Most likely the vendor got a sales tax audit and rather collect sales tax and let the buyer request the refund from the state. Many years ago a former client didn’t collect the proper forms, auditor gave them time to get resale certificate from their client, you will be surprised but many refused to give them, client ended up covering the sales tax and auditor submitted the non complaint customers for examination.
