Robin Morris Posted March 18, 2021 Report Posted March 18, 2021 I do my own personal return (with education credits) at my office in ATX and I want to treat this returns as self-prepared but if I mark as unpaid preparer then ATX won't let me efile because it still wants form 8867 which is only for PAID preparers. Any suggestions on how I can get the return efiled? Quote
Pacun Posted March 18, 2021 Report Posted March 18, 2021 I understand you don't want to be responsible for that return... but I would just file as a regular customer. Make sure your click on the "Third party" and put your name on it so if there is an issue with the return, the IRS calls you. Quote
jklcpa Posted March 18, 2021 Report Posted March 18, 2021 A little déjà vu? Did you try marking the return as filed by ERO only? 1 Quote
Pacun Posted March 18, 2021 Report Posted March 18, 2021 I do my own and my daughters and I always treat those returns as if I am paid. If I am not mistaken, as long as the return leaves my computer it will be counted against my efile number. 1 Quote
Robin Morris Posted April 9, 2021 Author Report Posted April 9, 2021 jklcpa....how do I mark the return as filed by ERO only? Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted April 9, 2021 Report Posted April 9, 2021 I'm not Judy but just remove the Paid Preparer information and leave the ERO information. They are separate in the system. If the return is open, Tools/Preparer/ERO>Remove Preparer Quote
Robin Morris Posted April 9, 2021 Author Report Posted April 9, 2021 It still keeps giving me the efile error needing form 8867... Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted April 9, 2021 Report Posted April 9, 2021 Sorry, I forgot to reread the beginning of this thread. Just a guess here that you may have to use a non-professional tax software. Otherwise, can't you paid with alternate currency? Love, chocolate chip cookies, bitcoin (heh, heh)? 2 Quote

Any suggestions on how I can get the return efiled? Robin...I'm just curious, why do you feel the need to show it as "unpaid"? Maybe I'm missing something but I also prepare my returns and my children's returns (both full time students) on ATX and show that I am the paid preparer. I keep sending my kids invoices and past due notices. I'm going to have to get a collection agency involved. 1 6 Quote

TAXMAN Posted April 10, 2021 Report Posted April 10, 2021 I get my yard mowed several times a year without asking. So I mark them as though I was paid. 4 Quote
