schirallicpa Posted February 27, 2021 Report Posted February 27, 2021 I have had 2 Taxpayers come in this year asking me to prepare and efile their NYS return after they used intuit or some other software and did their own 1040 but then got confused or didn't know how to do the NYS. I tried to efile the state but I got an error that the IRS manifest number or something like that had to be present in order to efile the NYS. Is there a way around this? I swear I had done this in past years without an issue. Quote
Possi Posted February 27, 2021 Report Posted February 27, 2021 The only way for me to e-file a state is to e-file the federal. The state piggy backs on the federal. Quote
Lee B Posted February 27, 2021 Report Posted February 27, 2021 If it's a "piggyback state" then no, otherwise yes. Quote

Abby Normal Posted February 28, 2021 Report Posted February 28, 2021 I efiled a MD only because fed had to be paper filed (due to being filed late with a deceased dependent). There's a box at the top of the MD EF Info form to 'disconnect' from the fed MeFile. Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted March 1, 2021 Report Posted March 1, 2021 VA accepts stand alone e-files. I usually file them together but don't have to. Quote
Lion EA Posted March 1, 2021 Report Posted March 1, 2021 I've filed CT and IL w/o Federal. I know I've filed other states alone, also. For instance, for a MFJ federal but two MFS for the state(s), you have to file the federal without the state and then file each state without the federal, right? Quote
