Bill Griffith Posted February 13, 2021 Report Posted February 13, 2021 (edited) 1099 from broker used beneficiary S.S. number on 1099 as she was also named as owner on a/c. The deceased mother has used on her return for years and her S.S. number was on previous years 1099s. Mother passed at mid year. Broker won't split 1099s for half year. How to enter on daughter return to claim second half of year without matching 1099 whole year? Edited February 13, 2021 by jklcpa Edit for more descriptive title Quote
jklcpa Posted February 13, 2021 Report Posted February 13, 2021 Why is this posted entitled "CPA?" Quote
jklcpa Posted February 13, 2021 Report Posted February 13, 2021 Daughter should report the portion that is not her income as a nominee recipient, and she should issue a 1099-DIV to the mother for that portion that belonged to the mother while she was alive. 1 Quote

Bart Posted February 13, 2021 Report Posted February 13, 2021 CPA is the confusing subject line Quote
jklcpa Posted February 13, 2021 Report Posted February 13, 2021 Yes, I'd be surprised if anyone actually read the topic as it was titled so I changed it. Quote
grandmabee Posted February 13, 2021 Report Posted February 13, 2021 I would report on mothers return and nominee out to daughter. Daughter would report her share on return. this way computer match with IRS. Quote

But the OP said this year's 1099 was reported using the beneficiary's SSN, so the nominee reporting would be the other way around with daughter nominee-ing out to the mother. 1 Quote
