Now that the IRS has outsourced to a third party collections agency, today was the first time I have ever seen a letter from one of the companies, but it's kind of weird since the TP is on a payment plan :dunno:

This does not pass the smell test.  I have received dozens of these letters and do not recall that they requested calling the IRS.

If the TP has not defaulted on his payments, I would ignore it, anyway, even if legit.

I usually ONLY ask the taxpayer to call the IRS. I don't suggest to call the possible scammers.
