MargaretMort Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Can we e-file if the 8879 is signed by Power of Attorney. My client is elderly, hard of hearing and in a nursing home. Her daughter has the Power of Attorney for her affairs. My thinking is probably not but it would be easier if we can do it that way. Thanks for the help. MM Quote
lbbwest Posted June 6, 2007 Report Posted June 6, 2007 Unless the Power of Attorney is specific regarding matters allowable (and does NOT allow for preparation of taxes) then there should be no prohibition to efiling with the POA signing the 8879. Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 I might be wrong, but I always thought that if you e-filed using a power of attorney signature it was necessary to do the 8453 and mail in the POA form with the 8453. I would be interested if anyone knows for sure. Quote
TaxmannEA Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 That's correct. The copy of the POA should be attached to a Form 8453. The 8879 cannot be used in this situation. Quote
MargaretMort Posted June 8, 2007 Author Report Posted June 8, 2007 That is exactly what I needed to know. I thought that might be the case, nice to know that my brain hasn't totally deserted me. MM Quote
