File extraction software

I need some recommendations from all the geeks/nerds out there.

I just had catastrophic failure (Hacking virus) of hard drives on my 2 main computers.  I am having to reload all the programs.  (I had all my data files, for all the programs, backed up on an external hard druve.

I need to extract a .rar file. What program do you use or recommend for extracting files from a compressed file?

Winrar is what I've used in the past.

I have used 7-Zip to handle rar files.

I have 7-zip; have not used it for .rar files, but in general I've found it very easy to use as well as versatile.
