Margaret CPA in OH Posted August 24, 2020 Report Posted August 24, 2020 I have mostly completed a 2019 1040 amended return to e-file but don't seem to be able to do so. The 8879 has combined the original refund amount with the additional refund from the amended return (client has already received the original refund) and I cannot create a 1040X in Create e-file. Only the 1040 appears. If I choose 1040, does the entire form (as corrected) get sent with the 1040X? How does one get a client authorization to e-file on an incorrect 8879? Just refer them to the copy of the 1040X? But there is no reference on 8879 to 1040X. I did not prepare or e-file the original return. Quote
Randall Posted August 25, 2020 Report Posted August 25, 2020 I'm not sure. I haven't tried this yet. But it would seem you have to wait for ATX to correct this. When you efile an extension, the program has a separate listing of the extension and later when you create the efile for the 1040, you can see the extension efile option grayed out. I would assume ATX would need to do this for the 1040X and show the original 1040 efile option grayed out. As for the 8879, I think I would just make manual changes until they come up with a separate form for the 1040X. Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted August 25, 2020 Author Report Posted August 25, 2020 Thanks, Randall, that is sort of what I was expecting to see. Once the 1040X was present, an option to e-file it would appear. It's possible, though, that it won't as I did not do the original e-file. Sigh.... Quote
Hank Posted September 29, 2020 Report Posted September 29, 2020 I haven't been able to get the 1040X show up on the Create e-file, either. Considering the snails pace at which anything paper is being processed, it'd be fab to be able to take advantage of electronically filing the 1040X. Quote
Hank Posted September 29, 2020 Report Posted September 29, 2020 I didn't file the originally. A friend of my client thought they were filing an extension, but filed a $1 return. Ei yi yi Quote

Margaret CPA in OH Posted January 27, 2021 Author Report Posted January 27, 2021 I have another 2019 amended return to e-file? Does this have to also wait until Feb. 12? Single father really could use the money after messing up Block free file. Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted January 28, 2021 Report Posted January 28, 2021 So far I have not had any luck with e-filing amended returns. The only amended I have had since e-filing become available was a chenge in filing status and apparently that is not eligible for electronic filing. Quote
1464940 Posted February 17, 2021 Report Posted February 17, 2021 I still can't e-file 2019 Form 1040X. ugh! Quote
Steph M Posted March 2, 2021 Report Posted March 2, 2021 (edited) I just found this article: https://support.cch.com/sfs/solution/000117934 So it seems like you just efile the 1040 “again” with the 1040x included?? I haven’t tried it yet, but will give it a try soon. Edited March 2, 2021 by jklcpa fixed nonfunctioning link Quote
1464940 Posted March 7, 2021 Report Posted March 7, 2021 Steph M, I tried that three times, and I keep on getting error from ATX system stating they can't accept the return already e-filed. @_@ I contacted the tech support a few times but chat and via email; they are not helpful at all! Quote
Lion EA Posted March 7, 2021 Report Posted March 7, 2021 I think the IRS isn't accepting 2020 1040-X until sometime later in March. Is the IRS accepting 2019? Quote
1464940 Posted March 7, 2021 Report Posted March 7, 2021 Lion EA, I have been successfully e-filed 2019 Form 1040 with the IRS acceptance, but 2019 Form 1040X doesn't even get to pass EFC, at least not for me. Quote
Lion EA Posted March 7, 2021 Report Posted March 7, 2021 I don't use ATX, so you'll have to ask ATX Support. Quote
