ETax847 Posted August 21, 2020 Report Posted August 21, 2020 I have a client who filed a 2019 amended return paper copy in April of 2019. The IRS still has not processed it or even have record of it per the priority practitioner hotline. Would you continue to wait or would you submit an EFiled copy now that this option exists? Quote
BulldogTom Posted August 21, 2020 Report Posted August 21, 2020 I would wait. At some point the IRS will get to that mail and process. When that happens, if the amended already happened you could possibly really gum up the system. Just my opinion. Tom Modesto, CA 1 Quote
ETax847 Posted August 21, 2020 Author Report Posted August 21, 2020 Thanks Tom. I appreciate the advice. Quote
Lee B Posted August 21, 2020 Report Posted August 21, 2020 Interesting, I paper filed an amended 2018 1040 for a client in late March. She received her federal refund check plus interest a month ago. However she is still waiting for her Oregon refund. Even in years past I remember amended returns taking over 4 months 1 Quote
Max W Posted August 23, 2020 Report Posted August 23, 2020 The amended return may not be processed yet, but it could be logged into the system, in which case an Efiled return would be rejected. If it were to be accepted, it could cause some problem, as Tom says. In normal times, it takes 4 months for an amended return to be processed, it would probably take, at least, an additional 2 or 3 months. 1 Quote
Randall Posted August 24, 2020 Report Posted August 24, 2020 I have the same situation as Etax. Still waiting for the amended paper return to be processed. I wondered about the same thing, that is, efile it now. But I was reluctant to do so for the same reasons stated. Quote
