Marie Posted July 11, 2020 Report Posted July 11, 2020 Are the winnings taxable in the state he was fishing in? (not his home state) He received a 1099 Quote
Lee B Posted July 11, 2020 Report Posted July 11, 2020 It sounds similar to NBA players having to file tax returns in every state in which they play a game. Quote
Marie Posted July 11, 2020 Author Report Posted July 11, 2020 Have others filed in other states. The 1099 came from Indiana, but the fising was is Louisana Quote
grandmabee Posted July 11, 2020 Report Posted July 11, 2020 I would file in his home state as most states taxes all income for residents. Then file a non resident state tax return in where he fished and earned the money. 1 Quote
Lion EA Posted July 12, 2020 Report Posted July 12, 2020 It's taxable in both states. File a non-resident state return where he earned the fishing money for all earnings sourced to that state. File a resident state return with his worldwide income, but take a credit for taxes paid to the other state. 2 Quote
