TAXMAN Posted March 26, 2020 Report Posted March 26, 2020 Hey all, I was asked this question. Does moving the due date for 2019 change the dead date for 2016? I know that filing the extension for 2016 effectly moves the dead date to the extended date so I read. Right or wrong? Quote
Lion EA Posted March 26, 2020 Report Posted March 26, 2020 The due date for 2016 was 14 April 2017 or if extended 15 October 2017. You can file a late return at any time. But, you cannot get a refund later than 3 years after the original due date or two years after a payment. If you are filing a 2016 return in hopes of a refund, 15 April 2020 is most likely your final chance. 1 Quote
Abby Normal Posted March 27, 2020 Report Posted March 27, 2020 Yes, the IRS coronavirus FAQs confirm that 2016 amended refund statute of limitations is 4/15/20, not 7/15/20. 1 Quote
