SCL Posted March 25, 2020 Report Posted March 25, 2020 what if the return has already been efiled and accepted with a balance due and a set date for a direct debit from a checking account on 3/30/20 can a change to a later date for payment only be done by an amended return Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted March 25, 2020 Report Posted March 25, 2020 I don't believe an amended return will accomplish that. You have to cancel the payment that is set up, and I believe the method for doing that is addressed in the FAQ at the site that Judy provided the link. Then you set up a new payment date on or before July 15. Personally, I would cancel the first payment date and wait until it had passed to make sure that the cancellation took before I set up a new payment date. 2 Quote
Lion EA Posted March 25, 2020 Report Posted March 25, 2020 Tell the client to call, unless you get paid to wait on hold. And, the client will need to set up her new date on DirectPay. Or, at least, I don't think we're supposed to be on DirectPay for someone else. Quote
Pacun Posted March 25, 2020 Report Posted March 25, 2020 Close the bank account and open a new one. Wait for the IRS to send you a bill and pay it on July 4th. Make a stop payment at your bank. I guess calling and talking to someone who can change the payment date is the only elegant option. An amended return will be process around July 24th. Quote
Lee B Posted March 25, 2020 Report Posted March 25, 2020 If you stop payment or close the bank account, won't you be assessed their NSF Fee. 1 Quote
