grandmabee Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 Just upgraded to windows 10 Pro with SSD drive. Would like recommendations on which anti virus to use. Quote
Yardley CPA Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 I use Bitdefender and Malwarebytes. No issues with either of these programs within my environment. All my programs seem to get along with one another and there don't seem to be any hiccups. Quote
Roberts Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 Since moving to Windows 10 I just use the Defender Antivirus that is included with it. I haven't had any problems. 2x per year I'll download Avast and do a bootscan. That caught a virus one time so I do that - I then uninstall once it is done. I typically do it in May and December. I have Malwarebytes also. I haven't had a virus nor malware in probably 5 years I'm guessing. (knock on wood) Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 Been using Eset NOD32 AV for over 25 years. Would not use anything else. 1 Quote
Lion EA Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 I've been using MalwareBytes for a long time and I forget what, plus I'd removed BitDefender as it was causing problems. With the move to a new computer with Win10, my new IT guy likes the Windows Defender, or whatever it's called, but the computer came with a free year of Norton, so that's what he set up for me. Don't know why he changed his mind, but he came highly recommended, I like him and how he explains most things to me, so I do what I'm told. I think he has MalwareBytes set up, but I'm going to ask him! 2 Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 I also use Comodo fee firewall because it blocks certain behaviors and lets me allow or deny that behavior. Quote
Medlin Software, Dennis Posted January 21, 2020 Report Posted January 21, 2020 The current Microsoft provided tool for always on. Random other tools, none based outside of the US, for weekly/monthly (whatever makes you comfortable) double checking. I insta;;, then uninstall the random tool. I would not suggest having two tools "on" at the same time. Before even starting to "believe" and warnings, I would do an update check on the tool reporting the issue (they are updated at least daily if they are worth using), and I would check the file with the "reported" issue against virustotal.com Personally, I do not use heuristics, as the results are, to me, like a WAG, hoping to show you the tool is worth paying for. Heuristics, to me, is roughly the same as palm reading for stock tips. Maybe you get lucky, but most likely, it is an unneeded annoyance (at best). Whatever you choose, look for any "rankings" on false positives. False positives are costly to deal with. A good firewall, with good settings for outgoing connections and easy to use reporting, is a good thing as well. Will let you watch for any missed items causing you to be part of a botnet. 1 Quote
