Considering a switch from ProSystemFX

I've been a ProSystemFX user for decades, and love it, but it's to the point where the cost is through the roof, in my opinion.  For others who have made a switch:

1) Are you pleased with ATX after having used FX or UltraTax?

2) How was the transition year?

3) Is the manner of e-filing a return similar to the approach used with FX?

Most of us are ATXers so I doubt someone will have experience switching from FX to ATX. I pay $1600 and get ATX tax sofware for IRS and all states with unlimited efiles  from Jan to Dec.  I also get payroll.  Since you are new, you will get a better deal... it is called "existing customer appreciation"???

One thing that confuses me is the difference ATX Max and ATX Advantage which is nearly $4,300 according to their website.  Two difference are:

1) With Advantage you get conversion help

2) With Advantage you get advanced calculations such as maximizing education credit/deduction, credit for taxes paid to another state, and "more"

If ATX is trying to get new customers, wouldn't they make the conversation process easy? Why charge for that?

The taxes paid to another state isn't included in their Max software? Huh? What other "advanced calculations" are not included in Max?

Max is worth it in my opinion. There are lots of little things that work/flow better and keeps you from making mistakes.

Also, buy all the back years available. I got 2007-2012 for $100 after I bought 2013.

You need to do the calculation in Max, whereas in Advantage it’s done for you.  If you have a lot of multistate clients, it’s worth it. 
As for the cost of Advantage, I initially paid only about 2600 for it. You’ll get a deep discount the first year..haggle!  I’m still not paying full price.

Total Tax cost me $2400.  I'm sure off hand what Total Tax has more than Max and less than Advantage.

ProSystem fx is now part of WK's US Small Firms, or whatever the current name is, just like ATX; you can probably get a better price via them on fx. Or, just haggle with your fx rep or inside renewal rep. Haggle.
