Richard B Posted October 15, 2019 Report Posted October 15, 2019 If a client agreed to the changes proposed on a CP 2000 and paid the tax, can a subsequent amended return be filed if it's still an open year and new information is discovered? Quote
Abby Normal Posted October 15, 2019 Report Posted October 15, 2019 Yes. You never give up your right to amend. 2 Quote

Lion EA Posted October 16, 2019 Report Posted October 16, 2019 You can always amend. The IRS can accept or not. You will not get a refund older than 3 years/2 years since payment without extraordinary situations. Quote
JohnH Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 How about an audit reconsideration? We've discussed it before but I'm not sure whether or not it applies here - just throwing it into the mix. Quote

Other returns not accepted are those with no change in tax liability, those with missing forms or insufficient information and frivolous returns. Otherwise, all others will be processed. An audit reconsideration is an entirely differenent animal than an amended return. Audit recons mostly happen after when the taxpayer is a no show for the audit and an assessment is made. Then anything that was disallowed has to be substantiated with receipts, bank stmts, cancelled checks, etc., just like at an audit, but it is all done by correspondence. In my expereience it is easier to get more favorable results than going to a face-to-face audit. Quote
