balgacpa Posted April 14, 2019 Report Posted April 14, 2019 like the title says, girl (w-2) drives her car around and picks up food for a soup kitchen (501c3) using her own car while on the clock. she gets no reimbursement... Sounds to me like a charitable contribution. Sometimes she takes the donators out to lunch. She attends seminars in other cities focused on helping feed the homeless. She uses her garage as a gathering area and storage space for donated off season clothing. All sounds like charitable stuff to me. Anyone disagree and why? thanks. Quote
Lee B Posted April 14, 2019 Report Posted April 14, 2019 You just have to follow the guidelines for the deduction of "out of pocket expenses" as a volunteer . Under the TCJA, there is no way to deduct unreimbursed employee expenses with the elimination of "misc itemized expenses subject to 2 %". 1 Quote
Catherine Posted April 14, 2019 Report Posted April 14, 2019 If she's NOT paid for it, documents it, and it goes to a charity, sounds like non-cash charity and charitable miles to me. 1 Quote
