KenO Posted February 21, 2019 Report Posted February 21, 2019 To e-file a 1041 is the fiduciary SSN required on the Auth Info tab? I have a trustee that doesn't want to provide it so I'm afraid I'll be stuck paper filing. Thanks, Ken Quote
WITAXLADY Posted February 21, 2019 Report Posted February 21, 2019 I would just use the EIN and skip that step - do you get a red warning? 1 Quote
Abby Normal Posted February 21, 2019 Report Posted February 21, 2019 It's not required. Just the name. Do an error check before entering anything on the Auth Info form and you see what the required fields are on that form. 1 Quote
SaraEA Posted February 22, 2019 Report Posted February 22, 2019 This must be a trust because I have the same issue in UT. The trustee must provide an EIN or SS# to efile. This is a requirement in some states but not the IRS, yet the software won't let you file without it. (Similar to how our state does not require ID like a driver license but we either have to provide it or mark the box that no ID was provided.) I have seen suggestions to use the trust EIN reported to look like a SS#, e.g., instead of 06-1234567, use 061-23-4567. Or paper file and let the trustee wait and wait and wait. Be sure to attach Form 8948 and lay the blame on him or her. Quote
Abby Normal Posted February 22, 2019 Report Posted February 22, 2019 If you create the federal efile while there is no state return included, will it efile? We have to paper file most state fiduciary returns, but MD doesn't even want you to file if there's no tax due. Quote
mwrightea Posted February 24, 2019 Report Posted February 24, 2019 We can now file 1041 in Colorado with just the name. I agree with Abby Normal run error check and see what pops up. Quote
