New York State Corporations - beware of a scam

To those of you who have NYS corporation tax clients - beware.

There is a private business entity, completely unrelated to New York State government, that is mailing out compliance registration forms, asking that businesses complete the information and submit back with a $ 125 fee to an address located in the state capitol of Albany, NY. The name of the business is New York State Corporation Compliance. The name of the form they ask you to complete is Annual Minutes Disclosure Statement".

For your edification-corporations in New York State require filing a bi-annual registration form with the Department of State, that asks for update information on the corporation's legal and mailing address, responsible officer(s) name and address. The bi-annual fee is $ 9.

This entity is asking for $ 125 EACH YEAR.

So please beware - warn your New York corporation clients to ignore these notices - they are not being generated from New York State government.
