Lion EA Posted November 29, 2018 Report Posted November 29, 2018 Can someone tell me off the top of their head: during a divorce, if on soon-to-be ex-spouse asks for a copy of their return, is that enough; or do I need permission from both spouses that were on the original returns? (Thanx, working on church function that's Friday, so buried in paper right now.) Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted November 29, 2018 Report Posted November 29, 2018 If the person signed the tax return (MFJ), they are entitled to any copy. No permission is needed. If they are MFS, or already divorced, they are only entitled to the return they signed. 3 Quote
Lion EA Posted November 29, 2018 Author Report Posted November 29, 2018 That's what I was remembering. Thank you for confirming. I'll get back to this now-ex-client (keeping the wife). 2/3 of the way through setting up the church's Advent Giving Tree. (Not to mention, need to do my exercises for my new hip.) Thank you again, Jack. 1 Quote
