Christian Posted April 3, 2018 Report Posted April 3, 2018 A client of mine passed on last year. His son is his executor and called requesting me to file an extension for his father as he lacked some needed documents. I efiled it and with some surprise received a rejection the Service advising that his Social Security number is blocked his account indicating he is deceased. Having never filed an extension for a deceased individual I guess this is all I can do. The estate will receive a refund so I doubt it will matter. Quote
grandmabee Posted April 3, 2018 Report Posted April 3, 2018 File a paper extension. You never know what might happen when you get all the doc's 9 Quote
JohnH Posted April 4, 2018 Report Posted April 4, 2018 Definitely file a paper extension. It costs you and the client nothing, but could save you both potential aggravation (and money) in the future. 2 Quote
Christian Posted April 4, 2018 Author Report Posted April 4, 2018 I sent it off today. Thanks for your input. 1 Quote
Randall Posted April 5, 2018 Report Posted April 5, 2018 When you tried to efile, did you enter the date of death under Filers Info? Just wondering if the efiling of the extension would have gone thru then. Quote
