AnnieR Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 Young man (19) is being home schooled. Last year he was considered a HS jr. Now to really confuse it. He has a full-time job, made almost $25k last year, but his mother tutored him at night. He did complete the work required to be considered a HS sr. this year. He does live at home--is he still a dependent? AnnieR Quote
RoyDaleOne Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 First did the son file his own tax return claiming himself? If, so you are mostly out of luck. He paases the three of the four tests to be a qualifying child. The did he provide more half his support test is one you will need to answer. He can not pass the qualifying relative tests (gross income is greater than $3,400). Quote
Pacun Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 As long as he didn't provide more than 50% for his own support, he qualifies mother for HOH and to claim his dependency. Quote
