BulldogTom Posted February 15, 2018 Report Posted February 15, 2018 I hate going to the ATX board. Have any of you been over there, and if so, are they giving any indication when IRS will be ready to release changes for extenders? I know this is not IRS or ATX fault, I am just looking for some clue as to how long I will need to hold returns. Tom Modesto, CA Quote
Lee B Posted February 15, 2018 Report Posted February 15, 2018 They say they are still waiting on the IRS. 1 Quote
Yardley CPA Posted February 15, 2018 Report Posted February 15, 2018 They did mention some information -- very general -- on their Facebook site that indicated they are waiting on IRS guidance. Quote

Abby Normal Posted February 18, 2018 Report Posted February 18, 2018 And ATX will be about a week after that. Quote
SaraEA Posted February 19, 2018 Report Posted February 19, 2018 Etax, have a little empathy. Do you realize how much work this entails? IRS has to rewrite software, forms, instructions, and pubs. They have to change a zillion linked pages on their website, FAQs, etc. This was thrown in their lap one week ago. They have reduced staff due to budget cuts and are sort of busy administering 2017 filing season right now. I would be amazed if they could pull it off in one month. We won't be doing any amendments until after tax season anyway--too busy with first runs. New returns that are affected by the extenders can be entered, checked, and put on hold until the time comes. Tell any impatient clients to complain to their congress members (and remember their names come November). 5 Quote

Hahn1040 Posted February 22, 2018 Report Posted February 22, 2018 just downloaded updated forms did not look for all of them but you can now enter PMI 1 1 Quote
Cathy Posted February 22, 2018 Report Posted February 22, 2018 IRS did announce that PMI is still deductible, and a couple of other things in their notice: IR-2018-33, Feb. 22, 2018. I found it under IRS.gov/Extenders where it says check back often. I had been looking earlier today and again several hours later...guess if we just check it once or twice a day. The Extender legislation wasn't signed until 2-9-18 from what IRS stated (The Bipartisan Budget Act). Fine time for them to do their job! Quote

joanmcq Posted February 23, 2018 Report Posted February 23, 2018 I’ve told my couple of PMI clients early March. If I file before then I’ll be a hero. 3 Quote
BulldogTom Posted February 23, 2018 Author Report Posted February 23, 2018 Did mine last night. Picking up and e-filing them today. I have to say, I am pretty impressed. The IRS and ATX both got this accomplished pretty darn quick. Unexpected to see both perform at an acceptable level. Tom Modesto, CA 1 Quote
