Abby Normal Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 Just came down late last night. I ran it on my Test Client file and it looks good. The new higher income limits for child tax credit helped on this test file, as did the QBI deduction. And even though the actual tax was higher, the child and family tax credits reduced the tax by almost 60%. 1 Quote
LouD Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 I did quick check last night on a client that I had done some work on my own spreadsheet and seems to check out from itemized deduction changes and income tax rate changes. The only area I haven't verified was AMT which seemed higher than expected given the new higher limits and exemptions 2 Quote
Abby Normal Posted February 8, 2018 Author Report Posted February 8, 2018 My AMT clients haven't shown up yet, but thanks for the heads up! Now if ATX would only let you pick the number of columns you wanted, we could all save a lot of toner! 2 Quote
Randall Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 I still don't have it available. Just downloaded the latest program update. Is it maybe because you have the Advantage plan? Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 I have it with the new program update in MAX and have tried it on a couple of simple returns. Are you sure you added the form to the return? It automatically updated for me. 1 Quote
Randall Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 I opened up a return and got the message that the planner was not available and will be automatically added when available. I opened another return and tried the add a form function but got the message that it was not available. Quote
Randall Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 Got it. Forgot about adding the planner from the Forms tab/Planning & analysis. Message to click and download the form. So I'm ok. Whew. Quote
Janitor Bob Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 I am embarrassed to say I never really new this existed...As a planner, I always just created a copy of the return and made changes to see what results would be like the following year assuming no changes in tax laws....which worked OK the past few years, but certainly won't work for 2018. I will need to play with this new toy. 3 Quote
Abby Normal Posted February 8, 2018 Author Report Posted February 8, 2018 With ATX, we're all just stumbling around in the dark finding new places. Unless you read the user's guide... which I probably ought to do someday. Probably be good to just read the table of contents and index! 1 1 Quote

I'll read that in my spare time....... 1 3 Quote
Abby Normal Posted February 9, 2018 Author Report Posted February 9, 2018 Put it on a tablet and leave it in the john. 2 2 Quote
TAXMAN Posted February 10, 2018 Report Posted February 10, 2018 Anybody figure how to maybe only print 2 or 3 of the columns. I think anything beyond that may be crap shoot. Quote

If you have a PDF editor and patience you can delete the unwanted columns. I've done it twice in years past but I'm just spending the toner and printing it all this year, because everyone is getting one. 1 Quote

If I want to show the client, I just print and cut off the additional columns. Quote
Abby Normal Posted February 10, 2018 Author Report Posted February 10, 2018 The additional columns would be more useful if ATX calculated the reduced child tax credit as kids turn 17. Also putting in an inflation factor screws up the child tax credit by applying inflation to the credit. Off to the official forum to let them know! Quote
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana Posted February 10, 2018 Report Posted February 10, 2018 I haven't been able to get into the 'official atx forum' for several months. When I click on it I get kicked to some other screen. Quote
Yardley CPA Posted February 10, 2018 Report Posted February 10, 2018 I've been using it and it's been working well. At least, I think it has...this time next year will be it's test. I use only the first two columns, in this case the 2017 current and the 2018 future. I place zeros in the 2019 fields which zero's out the rest of the columns. 1 Quote

Abby Normal Posted February 11, 2018 Author Report Posted February 11, 2018 Trying going directly to the page: https://community.atxinc.com/forums/ People always complain about having to log in, but when you bookmark the page, it never asks you to log in. Quote
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana Posted February 11, 2018 Report Posted February 11, 2018 I tried that, Abby Normal, and don't get in. And I'm logged in - I think it's broken and they are not about to spend resources to fix it. Quote
