JimTaxes Posted January 9, 2018 Report Posted January 9, 2018 Does this site ever work right.. every year I try and log in and every year it never works right Quote
Lion EA Posted January 9, 2018 Report Posted January 9, 2018 Whole new security to the site, forcing us all to register again, jumping through a lot of hoops to prove we are who we say we are. 1 Quote
JimTaxes Posted January 10, 2018 Author Report Posted January 10, 2018 To make it worse, when calling, call gets cut off.. too busy to take call.. classic 3 Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 10, 2018 Report Posted January 10, 2018 Other than a few sites problems over the years, I've almost never had a problem logging in, but then I login several times a month. Quote
JimTaxes Posted January 10, 2018 Author Report Posted January 10, 2018 what do you use that site for. I file about 800 returns a year and never use that site, except to verify my EFIN. Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 10, 2018 Report Posted January 10, 2018 Transcripts. I have clients that can never tell me what estimated payments they've made and others who lose their tax documents or never receive them. Of course the missing documents ones have to wait until as late as summer before the IRS has the documents posted. I also have client business clients with prior balances due for payroll taxes and I need to track those until paid off. 1 Quote
JimTaxes Posted January 10, 2018 Author Report Posted January 10, 2018 is the information instant on these transcripts.. i mean can you see them right at that time when you are using the site? Quote
Max W Posted January 10, 2018 Report Posted January 10, 2018 Yes. And you can print them out if you wish. Also, you can pull up as many transcripts as you want - no limit - as when Calling PPL. 2 Quote

It's a horrifically designed website and the security appears to be taking convoluted steps to NOT use truly safe options. I've yet to see step by step instructions on how to do things on the site (it's not really intuitive in my opinion) and since I do them sporadically, it's like starting over each time. I would pay a fee every year for an easy to use, secure portal using software like Citrix. As a license holder they have already done a background check on me. If I efile a return with the preparer checkbox, I should be able to review that client's transcript data via the secure system until the next return is filed or 18 months - whichever is shorter. It seems like many of the IRS "solutions" are designed to save IRS jobs. Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 11, 2018 Report Posted January 11, 2018 This is why some people pay for 3rd party front ends for the eservices site. https://www.google.com/search?&q=irs+transcripts+-gov Quote

Lion EA Posted January 11, 2018 Report Posted January 11, 2018 I think the IRS now (or soon?) requires that we notify our clients if we use a third-party to access e-Services. More security! 2 Quote

Lion EA Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 Knew I saw that someplace. I had a webinar Tuesday, a live class Wednesday evening where the speaker continued on long after two 50-minute hours, and a CT webinar today. My brain is mush already! 3 Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 Be warned, ATX doesn't update the 2848 in prior years software. It's nuts that they don't and I've suggested several times that they start updating at least the last 3 years. But I'd prefer they push the form out to the last 10 years for nonfilers. 1 Quote
TAXMAN Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 Concerning Eservices verification. I have Trac Phone which works for me. I am able to get text on it but IRS says not ok. I do not want to buy a phone and service just to get a message from them. Who knows what the workaround may be? Quote

Either the lines have "High call volume - call back later", or "there are callers ahead of you. The wait is 30 to 60 minutes." Yesterday I waited over 90 minutes and the line disconnected. 2 Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 12, 2018 Report Posted January 12, 2018 No, I called them back in November or December because I knew come 1/1 they would be swamped. I had a wait but it wasn't horrible and I got a very helpful person. Turned out that I didn't need to call at all because I got a Get Transcript account earlier in the year. 2 Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 13, 2018 Report Posted January 13, 2018 I have started having the client call, wait and request the transcripts. If they complain about the wait, I say: "Blame it on the hackers and the lack of funding for the IRS from Congress. Call your Congressman." 2 Quote
Lion EA Posted January 13, 2018 Report Posted January 13, 2018 My time is better spent taking classes than driving all over the state to prove to the IRS who I am. For the few times I need transcripts, I will make the client call and spend their time. 3 Quote
FDNY Posted January 13, 2018 Report Posted January 13, 2018 I was given a temporary password by EServices and told to wait on confirmation letter that never arrived. Now I am finally thinking like Jack and Lion, let the client get it, they didn't keep track of everything so why should I fret about it. 1 Quote

I played the Scarecrow in 4th grade, no brains then, working on them now. 1 3 Quote
