TaxmannEA Posted December 21, 2017 Report Posted December 21, 2017 I tried to access through the online portal, but the system didn't like my username. (I've only used it for the last 8 or 10 years.) I called the number, and after several holds the IRS rep told me that there was a "problem" with my file and she had to pass it up for resolution. I'm supposed to get a E-mail with directions on how to proceed in 2 or 3 days. (This was a week ago.) She wouldn't even tell me what the "problem" was. I'm beginning to think that they don't like me. (The feeling's mutual.) Any ideas as to what might be causing this? 3 Quote
SaraEA Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 Anyone know which credit reporting agency IRS is using? You can unfreeze your report at that one place only. I froze mine at all three and hope to heck the IRS isn't using Equifax. Quote
jklcpa Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 The last news I read was that Equifax lost their appeal to hold IRS to that $7+ million no-bid contract. IRS was trying to contract with Experian and I don't remember seeing anything at all about that. Quote
Catherine Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 Yes, it's Experian. The one that charges the fee for freezing and un-freezing your account. Sigh. Quote
B. Jani Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 Sorry, it was my typo. Actually all ERO got IRS letter 5903 (11-2016) last year in December to revalidate your E-Service identity with the IRS. If you have done that, then the current E-service validation is very easy. Quote
joanmcq Posted December 23, 2017 Report Posted December 23, 2017 I got all the way through the process, ID verified & all, then when I got to the screen to change my password, I get an error message saying my email was already associated with an account. No $h1+ Sherlock! I guess I’ll have to call. 1 Quote
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana Posted December 23, 2017 Report Posted December 23, 2017 Joan my experience was similar and after over 2 hours and 3'IRS personnel the inky solution was for me to use a different email address. I was not pleased Quote
joanmcq Posted December 23, 2017 Report Posted December 23, 2017 You’re f-ing kidding me. I only use one biz email. One. Quote
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana Posted December 24, 2017 Report Posted December 24, 2017 Yep. Me too. Luckily my fax is set up with an email so I set up my eservices with the fax's email. That was easier than setting up a new one or resurrecting my deceased mother's email (which has never been closed). Quote
Sarypion Posted December 29, 2017 Report Posted December 29, 2017 Is anyone having trouble resetting the e-services password/PIN? I keep getting the error: Error occurred in recovering password/PIN for user The password entered is not valid. Please review the password rules and try again. Quote
Abby Normal Posted December 29, 2017 Report Posted December 29, 2017 It worked fine for me, but I changed my password a few weeks ago. Quote

Yes, I called in and they had me set up new secret questions, gave me a temporary password, but still have to wait for a confirmation letter with code to sign in and change password. Quote
Sarypion Posted December 29, 2017 Report Posted December 29, 2017 Hmm, I called too and was told the system is down for maintenance. 1 Quote
TaxmannEA Posted December 31, 2017 Report Posted December 31, 2017 I finally got my e-mail and called them back. Seems that there is an "issue" with the username / password system that has affected a large number of users. They told me to try again, but the message says that they have no available persons to handle the call at this time. 1 Quote
FDNY Posted January 1, 2018 Report Posted January 1, 2018 Must be a big "issue," I'm waiting over 2 weeks for my confirmation letter. I think there was a holiday or two in there so I'll give them a few extra days. 2 Quote
grmy2h Posted January 2, 2018 Report Posted January 2, 2018 I tried it today. It told me my info didn't match anything and I needed to re-register. When I tried that, it told me that there was already an account with that info. From that it said there was a password mis-match and to reset the password. Once I did that it let me right in. 1 Quote

Did you reset the password on the website somewhere between 12/29/2017 and now? I'm still getting the "password is invalid" error message when I try to reset... Quote
