woodbmw Posted November 16, 2017 Report Posted November 16, 2017 how do i back up/copy files (returns) to an external hard drive? Quote
Ringers Posted November 16, 2017 Report Posted November 16, 2017 When you plug the external hard drive into a USB port on your computer, the computer will assign it a drive letter. Then, in your backup program, just use that assigned letter as the destination for the backup. If you want to copy the returns instead of backing them up, select the files you want to copy by left-clicking them while holding dwon the control key (or you can select all of them by clicking on the first file and then, while holding down the Shift key, click on the last file). When all are selected, RIGHT-click to being up the menu and select "copy." Under "This Computer" or whatever the name of your Windows version's drive listing program, find the drive letter corresponding to your external hard drive, left'click to select it, and then RIGHT click to being up the context menu to select "Paste." Hope this helps. Quote
Abby Normal Posted November 17, 2017 Report Posted November 17, 2017 You can export easily to an external drive. Or you could copy the ATX backup folder to your drive manually. Quote
Randall Posted November 17, 2017 Report Posted November 17, 2017 I do two things with ATX. I copy the backup files and I export (from within the program) the files. I do this from my c drive to my internal 2nd hd. And I do this to an external hd. Quote
Abby Normal Posted November 17, 2017 Report Posted November 17, 2017 Everyone should backup 3 things: ATX Data folder ATX Backup folder Exports folder If you're using the default data paths, the first 2 are both subfolders of C:\Program Data\CCH Small Firm Services for the 2012-present. 1 1 Quote
