WITAXLADY Posted April 3, 2017 Report Posted April 3, 2017 so I was curious as to why H/H making $44,000 didn't qualify for student loan interest deduction when I go to worksheet - it looks like he should - is worksheet off? line 6,7? ATX I will look in IRS pub later for real worksheet - but it looks like there should be a factor besides -0- at that income level I would expect it to be limited at a higher income but H/H is at $65,000??/ Quote
Terry D EA Posted April 3, 2017 Report Posted April 3, 2017 According to the table below from Pub 970, something is wrong as you should be allowed the deduction. Not using ATX anymore so I can't be of help there but I would look for something entered that is not allowing the deduction. Table 4-2.Effect of MAGI on Student Loan Interest Deduction IF your filing status is... AND your MAGI is... THEN your student loan interest deduction is... single, head of household, or qualifying widow(er) not more than $65,000 not affected by the phaseout. more than $65,000 but less than $80,000 reduced because of the phaseout. $80,000 or more eliminated by the phaseout. married filing joint return not more than $130,000 not affected by the phaseout. more than $130,000 but less than $160,000 reduced because of the phaseout. $160,000 or more eliminated by the phaseout. Janitor Bob Posted April 4, 2017 Report Posted April 4, 2017 make sure you are entering the interest in the correct place for filer or spouse. Quote
