Possi Posted March 31, 2017 Report Posted March 31, 2017 This is tricky this year. In order to efile MD resident return, you must have a MD address. My 2 sisters (clients) are both military, MD residents, but stationed elsewhere. They do not have a MD address. The return will not efile this year without one. This is new this year. I called MD revenue, and the office suggested I use the last address where they lived. I told them I cannot put a stranger's address on my clients' tax returns. I actually said, "STRANGERS live there now!" Does anyone know how to trick the system? One sister is in TN and the other is in Japan. Quote
Possi Posted March 31, 2017 Author Report Posted March 31, 2017 I just emailed MD hoping for a response. Maybe someone on this board will have an answer before MD gets back to me. It's been 2 days waiting for a phone call. Quote
Pacun Posted March 31, 2017 Report Posted March 31, 2017 I think their suggestion is correct. Let's say I lived in Maryland until January 31, 2017 and it is time to file my taxes. Let's say I moved to California. So on the return, I will enter my California address and then there is a question.... this is NOT your address... the question is... where did you live on December 31, 2016 and I would enter the MD address. No one will contact me at this address because everybody knows that I live in California. This is only for statistical purposes and if you sisters have used MD as their state, they can use any address. 1 Quote

It actually addresses the military personnel and says to use the MD address on file with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service. http://forms.marylandtaxes.com/current_forms/Resident_booklet.pdf 1 Quote

Thank you. I'm writing to my clients to get that address right now. Quote
