Abby Normal Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 We need a tips and tricks sticky post to share this kind of stuff. Here's the link: http://files.cchsfs.com/doc/atx/2014/Help/14.3/Content/Both-SSource/Creating Links Between Fields.htm This solves a couple issues with MD forms (paging Richcpaman!) like automating the county name on the 502D worksheet and the new physical address field, but I'm sure I'll find more uses for it. And if you knew about this and didn't tell me, this is for you ಠ_ಠ. Quote
jklcpa Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 I'll start a topic for tips and tricks and pin it for us. I'm going to suggest that the subject of the tip be made larger and in bold so that they stand out and aren't lost if a discussion ensues within the thread. How's that? 2 Quote
Richcpaman Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 Will this work on rolled over forms from the prior year? Or just newly created returns, or newly added forms? Seems it has been available since 2014... Rich Quote

You just have to choose the county and town on the data page. Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 30, 2017 Author Report Posted January 30, 2017 I stand corrected. You don't have discard and re-add. Rollovers use the customized master. You only need to discard/re-add for returns that were rolled over before the customization. Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 30, 2017 Author Report Posted January 30, 2017 And when you discard/re-add you can just close/reopen and the county will be repopulated. Quote
Ryanvv126 Posted February 3, 2017 Report Posted February 3, 2017 I've been using this to the link the dates between 1040, 8879, state return, and the state e-file authorization. That way I only need to change the date in one place, and it auto-populates my entire tax return for me or changes the date if needed. 2 Quote
Abby Normal Posted February 3, 2017 Author Report Posted February 3, 2017 Thanks for the date idea! I knew there had to be lots of ways I could use this. 2 Quote

Now I don't. Yeah, it's pretty impressive. I also link my most common state forms and connect them to the federal as well. It saves some time. Also, there are a lot of times that a client does not come in to sign their returns on the day they say they are going to sign it. Now you only need to change the date in one spot and it auto populates the rest. 3 Quote

When I used ATX I did something similar for every DE client that had credit for taxes paid to other states. ATX never got to the correct credit without overriding, so I'd link the lines for those overrides to the appropriate lines on the other states' returns in case there was a subsequent change to the returns, I wouldn't have to manually recalculate those credits again, it was automatic. 5 Quote
