Dan Posted January 21, 2017 Report Posted January 21, 2017 What is the filing requirement for a student attending a Church University? Is a return required to be filed in this situation? 1. W-2 has $1030.67 income reported 2. No federal and state taxes reported 3. No Social Security or Medicare taxes reported 4. No State taxes reported The church university is a university of a certain denomination, no particular church but all the churches of the denomination. I believe some money does go from the denomination to the university. Thanks for your response! Quote
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana Posted January 22, 2017 Report Posted January 22, 2017 Won't it also depend on the state's filing threshold ? Quote
David W Ristau CPA Posted January 24, 2017 Report Posted January 24, 2017 No Federal return to file, however, I agree with lynn EA in Louisiana, prudent to check state filing requirement, too. Quote
Max W Posted January 25, 2017 Report Posted January 25, 2017 Some states have a very low filing threshhold. I think in PA it is $33.00 1 Quote
JohnH Posted January 25, 2017 Report Posted January 25, 2017 Wonder what that return looks like? Gross Income: $ 33.00 Amount withheld: -0- Balance of Tax Due $ 33.00 1 Quote

States want as much as they can get, just like all ALL government. 2 Quote
