Roberts Posted January 20, 2017 Report Posted January 20, 2017 Yep, I've already lost one - threw away the paper that I'd written it on. The security questions - the answers don't work. Going to have to come in tomorrow and work with the company to get it reset. 2 Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 20, 2017 Report Posted January 20, 2017 Just login and fail 5 times then you'll get a prompt to reset with your installation code. 1 Quote
Possi Posted January 23, 2017 Report Posted January 23, 2017 TW is killing me, too. Won't take my password, and I know my password. Dead in the water, I am. Quote
Roberts Posted January 24, 2017 Author Report Posted January 24, 2017 It was Drake tax software - not ATX so 5x wasn't helping. Guy who pays for Drake had to call them and vouch I could talk for him - Drake emailed us a temp password but it took a while. The Drake website says my password will only work for 90 days. Do they mean every 90 days FOREVER? Quote

Do they mean every 90 days FOREVER? From a Drake knowledgebase: Quote Passwords "Age Out" Rules: The software will now capture the date that a password is created or reset. The program will begin to prompt you regarding the password change a week before the password will age out. On day 91 that a password has been in use, it will need to be reset before you can access Drake Tax. One week prior to expiration of a preparer's password, Drake Tax will give a daily reminder that the password will need to be reset in X number of days. Once that number of days has expired, the preparer will be forced to reset their password. Login Session "Timing Out" Rules: Preparer log in sessions will "time out" and become locked: After 30 minutes of computer inactivity, or After 24 hours of continuous computer activity. Any open screen(s) will lock in place and require the preparer to re-enter his or her password in order to continue working in the program. If the preparer chooses to exit the program instead of entering in their password after the "time out," the software will close and any unsaved data may be lost. Roberts Posted January 24, 2017 Author Report Posted January 24, 2017 That's where I got the 90 days thing. Holy cow, so in October or whenever I could be updating the password again even though I might go 2-3 month without logging into it. Last years tax software still doesn't require it - guessing FUTURE years will link the passwords between yearly versions? Quote
Catherine Posted January 25, 2017 Report Posted January 25, 2017 Don't know if the passwords will link between yearly versions, but this is a new IRS requirement for ALL software. Some have been more enthusiastic about putting requirements into action than others. QB does the same, now. Every three months change it; no way around it. I tell you, the more they regulate "information safety" the more I start to think it's time to go back to paper and pencil. Clay tablets and cuneiform? Those old Babylonian records can still be read (and believe it or not many of them are tax records lol). 5 Quote
Catherine Posted January 25, 2017 Report Posted January 25, 2017 I remember re-inking the ribbons; boy was THAT a messy job! We had an ancient manual typewriter at home and the ribbon was in good shape but needed re-inking on occasion. 3 Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 25, 2017 Report Posted January 25, 2017 Remember how noisy and slow dot matrix printers were? You had to have a sound chamber around them to keep your hearing. I remember going from a 4 minute per page dot matrix to a 4 page per minute laser printer. It was nirvana. 5 Quote
