Naveen Mohan from New York Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 I have a client who got a gift of $ 150,000 from his aunt. The aunt is in china and she is a Chinese national and resident . The aunt has no plan of coming to USA. My question is how do I handle gift tax in this situation. Gift tax is normally paid by the donor and donor in this case is in china with no intention of ever coming to USA and obviously she does not have a SS number. Thanks for your help with this matter. Catherine Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 Form 3520 to report; taxes are dealt with in gift-giver's country. Just had to look this up a week or so ago myself. https://www.irs.gov/businesses/gifts-from-foreign-person 3 Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 Thanks, Catherine. I learned something today. Now my head hurts and I want to go home. 3 Quote

I may just pack it in, go home, and take a nap before tonight's pistol match. Poor head is pounding worse as the hours go on. And the spreadsheet I was working with is now completely done and I have ALL those rental expenses categorized properly. All that's missing is the annual property insurance.... *always* something! 2 Quote
