BHoffman Posted June 15, 2016 Report Posted June 15, 2016 I made a mistake on form 1045. Any advice on how to submit a corrected form? Thanks! Quote
Abby Normal Posted June 16, 2016 Report Posted June 16, 2016 Depends on the error, but I think a 1040X is your best bet. Has the 1045 been accepted? Quote
BHoffman Posted June 16, 2016 Author Report Posted June 16, 2016 The 1045 was accepted with IRS corrections, leaving the refund short by around $2k. I use Drake, no excuse but the data entry is awkward and I let it calculate the AGI after carry back. That number was wrong and I did not catch it. I filled out the rest of the form correctly, but IRS changed those numbers to correspond with the incorrect AGI. So, I'm wondering whether to mail a reply with a new 1045 and explanation, or send in a 1040X requesting the $2k balance. Thanks for advice and hope every is enjoying the summer. Quote
Abby Normal Posted June 16, 2016 Report Posted June 16, 2016 I'd do a 1040X with a lengthy explanation and a corrected 1045 attached, clearly labeled DO NOT PROCESS-1040X ATTACHMENT ONLY. 1 Quote
