Pacun Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 Is there a number for a client to call the IRS and talk to a person? 1-800-829-1040 doesn't seem to have an option to talk to a representative. Quote
FDNY Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 Yes you can, I recently had a client call and it took some maneuvering and he was able to get to a person and he conferenced me in. Not sure what he did but he had to try with two calls, very frustrating. This was for an issue I couldn't resolve on Hotline (they wanted an 8821 from me), was for a large refund stuck in processing. Abby Normal Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 Looks like 1040 is still the number. https://www.irs.gov/uac/telephone-assistance Quote
Max W Posted May 19, 2016 Report Posted May 19, 2016 Suggestion: Try around 8AM or late afternoon and avoid Mondays and Fridays. I have made hundreds of calls to the IRS and this seems to work best. Even though they weren't on the 1040 number, the results should be about the same. 2 Quote
Abby Normal Posted May 19, 2016 Report Posted May 19, 2016 I had good luck Friday evening around 7. I think it's because it's payday for most people and many are shopping, dining, drinking, etc. 1 Quote
Lion EA Posted May 19, 2016 Report Posted May 19, 2016 Yes, some of the IRS numbers answer into the evening, and many people stop calling by 5 p.m. or earlier thinking the IRS keeps normal office hours. Some of the more specialized numbers close by 5 p.m. But, I've had good luck in the evening. Also, early morning as I'm on the east coast (but I'm not a morning person). 3 Quote
Max W Posted May 21, 2016 Report Posted May 21, 2016 The absolute worst days to call are after a 3-day weekend. 2 Quote
