ILLMAS Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 TP brought in two 1099's and clearly across the form the it says "THIS FORM IS NOT REQUIRED FOR YOUR 2015 TAXES", but there was some federal withholdings, what part of the forms do I need to account for? Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 Could it be possible that there is a blue form at the top, equivalent to the social security statement and labeled 1099-RRB, that says "THIS FORM IS NOT REQUIRED FOR YOUR 2015 TAXES" and 3 copies of a green form with no such notation? And that green form is a 1099R equivalent? In which case you do not need the top form for any reason this year, but the other 3 forms are required to be reported. Not sure if the color coding applies in every state. But at least in VA, that is the type of set up I see for railroad retirement. 4 Quote
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 My client with RR retirement, had also worked in a job in the social security system. His RR Retirement combined both the RRR and Social Security. The social security was reported in the blue section, box 5. RRR was reported in the green section box 7; gross and taxable amount of pension equates to boxes 1 and 2 of the 1099-RRB. Be sure to exclude the portion of the Tier II employee contributions; I use the simplified method to calculate the taxable amount. Does this help ? 1 Quote
