giogis245 Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 This couple is wondering if they have to file, they're income was below the required amount to file, they made about 10k together. I inputted their information and seems like they owe $1,500 because of Obama Care! They don't want to file "if they're not required to file" but by having Obama Care do you have to file? Thank you!! grmy2h Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 Instructions on 1095A.... "You must complete Form 8962 and file it with your tax return if any amount other than zero is shown in Part III, Column C, of this Form 1095-A (meaning that you received premium assistance through advance credit payments) or if you want to take the premium tax credit. The filing requirement applies whether or not you're otherwise required to file a tax return." 3 Quote
Possi Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 http://obamacarefacts.com/file-taxes-obamacare/ If they received advanced payments, they are required to file. This website explains it very well. 2 Quote

joanmcq Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 If you are below the filing requirement you are supposed to be on Medicaid, not Marketplace. There is a spot to check if your state didn't expand Medicaid, and then there is no repayment. Also an exception if you expected to make more in the year, but circumstances changed (just had one of these). Quote
