DEO Posted February 19, 2016 Report Posted February 19, 2016 TP who is a citizen and a non resident were married in 2014. Citizen filed his tax as single for 2014. Spouse with a tax ID also filed as single. For immigration purposes, they now want to file a joint return for 2014. Is it possible to amend the 2014 return and how should I proceed Your insights is greatly appreciated Deo Quote
joanmcq Posted February 19, 2016 Report Posted February 19, 2016 Start with one return, best to use the citizen. Amend to add the spouse's income and expenses. 3 Quote
tkamba Posted February 19, 2016 Report Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) I have done this with a civil commitment converted to a marriage. It works just combine the 2 tax returns. Edited February 19, 2016 by tkamba Quote
