I have H on medicare all year. Spouse is through market place. Gross income on joint return 80k causing the ACA advance payment to be repaid in full. Does this sound reasonable? Income way up do to some last minute stock sales and a hard hit on taxable SS.

Not only reasonable, but quite common.

Had one last year that got a lump sum payment from Social Security that triggered the repayment.  So like Jack said it's going to be common.
