Help me out fellow NY preparers!  I have a client that moved to Ohio this past August.  He wants me to file his NY return but it appears as though I need a NYTPRIN...is that true?  How many hoops must I jump through to do this one return?

Not sure about code 09, but if you call NY at 518 457 1929 they'll be able to assit you.  Since you are only doing 1 return this year you are not required to take any of their "refresher" classes (videoes).  Good luck JB.

JB, since you are not a CPA or EA, my understanding (in general) is that you have to register and get the NYTPRIN, but since you didn't prepare any NY returns last year and will only prepare the one return this year, then you don't have to pay the fee.  Also not sure about the code 09 because I didn't investigate the NY site.

I registered and obtained my NYTPRIN.....my registration got "locked up/lost"..had to call the department, get transferred several times...wait on hold for what seemed like forever...but it's done.  All of this for one client...for a one-time part-year return.  I should have charged more.
