Janitor Bob Posted February 9, 2016 Report Posted February 9, 2016 Help me out fellow NY preparers! I have a client that moved to Ohio this past August. He wants me to file his NY return but it appears as though I need a NYTPRIN...is that true? How many hoops must I jump through to do this one return? Quote
Janitor Bob Posted February 9, 2016 Author Report Posted February 9, 2016 Can I use exclusion code 09 and just do his NY return for free (only charge for Fed and OH)? Quote
FDNY Posted February 9, 2016 Report Posted February 9, 2016 Not sure about code 09, but if you call NY at 518 457 1929 they'll be able to assit you. Since you are only doing 1 return this year you are not required to take any of their "refresher" classes (videoes). Good luck JB. Quote
jklcpa Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 JB, since you are not a CPA or EA, my understanding (in general) is that you have to register and get the NYTPRIN, but since you didn't prepare any NY returns last year and will only prepare the one return this year, then you don't have to pay the fee. Also not sure about the code 09 because I didn't investigate the NY site. Quote
Janitor Bob Posted February 10, 2016 Author Report Posted February 10, 2016 I registered and obtained my NYTPRIN.....my registration got "locked up/lost"..had to call the department, get transferred several times...wait on hold for what seemed like forever...but it's done. All of this for one client...for a one-time part-year return. I should have charged more. I need a drink 4 Quote
FDNY Posted February 10, 2016 Report Posted February 10, 2016 A well earned drink, make it a Manhattan. 1 Quote
