Booger Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Client (legally separated) lives with boyfriend. Client's son and his wife also live with her. Client's son and wife have 2 small children who also live with client and her boyfriend. Boyfriend and client each have W-2 of about 35,000 apiece. Client's son and wife made about $5,000 between them. Son made 3,500, his wife made 1,500. Plan on filing MFJ (son and wife), Single (Client claiming both grandkids), Boyfriend filing single (claiming himself). Does this sound correct? Quote
ljwalters Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Sorry I don't know how to the cut and past part of your post So "You said client is legally seperated living with boyfriend" Client can not file Single must file MFS or Head of House if she qualifies. Linda and buddy Quote

Boyfriend should file single with no dependents, no question about that. Your client could claim all (son and wife and two children) and possible she could qualify as HH. Quote
jainen Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 >>Does this sound correct?<< You have some serious issues of confidentiality and conflict of interest, but assuming you can work your way through them you might want to review the EIC tables. Quote

Thanks, jainen, for another straight-forward answer. Can always count on you. Booger Quote
Pacun Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Jainen is right... since they made 5K, they can claim their children and get a big refund. Mother will file MFS. Quote
