GeneInAlabama Posted January 24, 2016 Report Posted January 24, 2016 Last night I was sending an email and highlighted a sentence to underline it. It burned a faint image into my monitor and it won't go away. I now have a blue blur across my screen and no, it isn't on the outside of the screen, it won't wipe off. Has anyone ever have this happen to them and is there any way to get rid of the blur? Quote
GeneInAlabama Posted January 24, 2016 Author Report Posted January 24, 2016 I just rebooted and it went away. Weird. It was on the screen no matter which program I was in. 3 Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 24, 2016 Report Posted January 24, 2016 Those are early symptoms of a video card starting to die. 1 Quote
GeneInAlabama Posted January 24, 2016 Author Report Posted January 24, 2016 Thanks Jack. At least now I'll know where to look when it happens. Quote
kcjenkins Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Look into it now, so you can shop for a good price on a replacement card. You want to have it and replace it BEFORE it totally dies, which is sure to happen at the WORST possible time. 3 Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Is this a desktop or a laptop? If it is a laptop, the video card is integral in the motherboard. If the video card goes bad, you need a new laptop. KC is right. Plan on the replacement right now. 4 Quote
GeneInAlabama Posted January 25, 2016 Author Report Posted January 25, 2016 Thanks KC and Jack. I'll do that. I don't need any more headaches during the rush of tax season. This is the first time I have ever experienced this problem and had no idea at all what caused it. It is a desktop. Quote
Abby Normal Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Most stock desktops use on board video to keep prices down, but installing a video card bypasses the on board video, anyway. Quote
Pacun Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Don't look for a new video card. Look for a faster internet connection. I play cards with two computers. One connected to my regular cable fast connection and another connected to a mifi (hotspot). No matter what computer I use on the hotspot (which is slower than my cable connection), I get that ghost image on the slower connection. Sometimes it stays for a while and sometimes it goes away if I reload the page. Quote
