Yardley CPA Posted December 23, 2015 Report Posted December 23, 2015 Arrived at work this morning and received my AICPA Tax E-Alert. Within the email was: The IRS will close the PTIN and EIN systems at the end of the year, so act now if you need to use these systems. I renewed my PTIN last night. Wondering what happens if you don't renew by the end of the year? Are you still able to transmit returns? Does the IRIS penalize preparers who do not renew? In any event, Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year to all members of this great community! 3 Quote
jklcpa Posted December 23, 2015 Report Posted December 23, 2015 Only those preparers with active PTINs may transmit returns. It's not unusual for the IRS to shut down their systems for maintenance around the end of the year, and that has included the PTIN system in prior years. It usually lasts a week or two and then reopens. 3 Quote
mcb39 Posted December 24, 2015 Report Posted December 24, 2015 IMO, procrastination is no excuse. They have been reminding us for months. 1 Quote
Roberts Posted December 31, 2015 Report Posted December 31, 2015 efile season doesn't start until the 19th so it would have been up and running long before then. I renewed back in November! Quote
Terry D EA Posted January 1, 2016 Report Posted January 1, 2016 Yeah I renewed mine back in November too. I did renew mine one year after the deadline and before the next filing season began and all was okay. Can't remember which year but still.... Check the IRS site or call in a week or so to see if your renewal went through. Quote
Lion EA Posted January 1, 2016 Report Posted January 1, 2016 I did my yesterday (31 December 2015) and all is well. Quote
