Don in Upstate NY Posted October 17, 2015 Report Posted October 17, 2015 An aside - I converted to Win 10 about a week ago. Thought I'd do it now rather than when the 2015 tax software is distributed next month. Everything went smoothly except that my tax program (TaxWise) didn't work. A known problem to customer support; had to remove and then rerun the install program - maybe ten minutes overall. The process for 2014 also fixed my TaxWise for all back years. My real gripe is that Freecell isn't a part of Win 10, although a different version is available as a free app. Quote
Randall Posted October 18, 2015 Report Posted October 18, 2015 Watch out for the update appearing in your list of regular updates. I have my setting to inform me of updates but wait for me to select and install the updates. Recently I saw the W10 update and it was pre-checked. I had to uncheck it. 4 Quote
Abby Normal Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I posted instructions before of the steps needed to stop this zombie from showing up in Windows Update. It didn't pop up with the latest round of updates last week, but I remain vigilant. Quote
Abby Normal Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 I believe if you cancel your reserved copy (if you had reserved a copy) of windows 10, then uninstall KB3035583, and then hide KB3035583. you should not have a problem. Microsoft re-released KB3035583 not that long ago so I had to hide it twice. You uninstall updates at Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update\View update history. You hide an update by right clicking and choosing hide. 4 Quote

jklcpa Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 jmdaviscpa, thanks for referencing the KB # again and making it easy to find and uninstall again. From my list, that update came in again on 10/6, so about 2 weeks ago on my list. I also have my update settings to allow me to review the updates before installing. 3 Quote
mcb39 Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 Another "Thank You" to jmdaviscpa. I just shared that info with my tech support and he was happy to get it. He had actually called me because of the issue, just as I was reading that board. I was able to tell him which file to remove and he can use that for all the other clients who do not want Win 10. This board is awesome. 2 Quote
Abby Normal Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 Always happy to share! I, too, learn much from this board. So, a big thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge! 1 Quote
