Client became a widower in January, 2007. Remarried during 2007. New wife has two kids. The deceased wife had 2007 income. I assume that I file him MFJ with the new wife. How do I file the deceased wife?

It makes you wonder how the polygamist files his joint return. How does he get all those wives on one return?

From pub. 17:

"If your spouse died during the year, you are considered married for the whole year for filing status purposes. .... If you remarried before the end of the tax year, you can file a joint return with your new spouse. Your deceased spouse's filing status is married filing separately for that year."

Are you saying that the decreased wife had income sufficient in part of one month to owe income taxes?

If you have "1099" income it is most likely that new accounts were not setup at the time of death and therefore include income not belonging to the decreased wife.
