mdmcfarland Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 I think I know the answer to this one, but is there a way to attach a statement that you make yourself to an efile return? This is a statement to explain an election 1033 involuntary conversion. I think it will have to be paper filed, but it sure makes things simpler if it can be efiled. Quote
Maribeth Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 I don't know for sure but could you use the 8453 and attach the statement to that? Maribeth Quote
taxperson Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 The instructions for the 8453 are very specifiec about which types of supporting documents should be attached to it. I'd seriously recommend paper filing. And currently the IRS has no mechanism built into 1040 efile to allow attachment of stuff. On the business side, it can be done and, hopefully, the IRS will add this feature when the 1040 system is upgraded in 2009 or 2010. Quote

When in the return, go to the add forms list, find and open elections/statements form. On the bottom tab, you will find Blank Statements. Hope that helps. Quote
mdmcfarland Posted February 22, 2008 Author Report Posted February 22, 2008 I found that and entered the information. Do you know if it will be attached to an efile? There is a box to check if you want to print that statement and I do have that marked. I'm thinking I should just paper file to make sure. It is a farm return with quite a few forms so I would like to efile, but if it's not possible, I guess I won't. Quote
LindaB Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 When you're in the return, after you have created the e-file and on the screen with e-file info, click on the tab at the bottom 'e-filed forms' and see if it lists the statement. If it's listed there, it will go. Quote
mdmcfarland Posted February 22, 2008 Author Report Posted February 22, 2008 Thanks, I tried that and got a message that teh 4136 still can't be efiled. I guess that answers my question. I forgot I had that form in there but thanks for the info. Quote
