NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 I have entered the information 4 times now and it just says error computing premium. I'm going to cry. Two parents and 8 kids. I've tried some of the other pinned websites, but I can't find that can do what I need. Quote
NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted April 13, 2015 Author Report Posted April 13, 2015 After 30 minutes on the phone, they determined that the website is either broken or they can't calculate the bronze or silver premium for 10 people in a family. I extended the return. 2 Quote
BulldogTom Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 Wow. This is an interesting post. Please let us know how it resolves. I am very interested in this. Thanks Tom Newark, CA 1 Quote
jklcpa Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 Do you think the premiums will be different if the marketplace could calculate all 10 people's coverage at once vs. calculating them separately and then adding those numbers together? Quote
BulldogTom Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 Is there a limit on family size where it will not change? Like a family of 6 or 7 and the premium does not go up any more? Tom Newark, CA Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 Nothing changes above 5 children. Use 5 and see how it goes. Quote
NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted April 13, 2015 Author Report Posted April 13, 2015 Thanks, Jack. It's amazing that no one that I spoke to there would know that it doesn't change above 5. I'm not messing with it until next week. I wasted over an hour and they have a good sized refund. If the website doesn't work for that large a family, then there should be a disclaimer or it should stop you at 5 dependents. I'm too frustrated to worry about it. 1 Quote

It is one of those little tidbits I need to keep in the back of my mind. I thought that would be the case, but I would like to see it in writing somewhere if you would be willing to share your source. Thanks Jack. Tom Newark, CA Quote
mcb39 Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 Why are all of my clients who received refunds of premium getting letters asking for more information? Quote
jklcpa Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 What kind of information is being requested? Are these self-employed? Quote
mcb39 Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 What kind of information is being requested? Are these self-employed? They want copies of the original 1095A......Not self employed. So far, one is a single girl who broke her arm and was off work for some time in 2014. Premiums were based on 2013 income. She is a cosmetologist; so, of course, she couldn't work and had no benefits. The other one that is bringing his in is a case where they each had their own. She had ACA for first six months; then went onto Medicare. He had insurance through work for the first five months; then went onto ACA. Whoever said that the IRS wouldn't be checking these was DEAD WRONG! 3 Quote
RitaB Posted April 14, 2015 Report Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Whoever said that the IRS wouldn't be checking these was DEAD WRONG!Well, that might have been me. But I think I probably got the idea from somebody else. And I hate that you are dealing with it, but maybe if enough people see how this is not exactly the greatest piece of legislative genius ever passed...Nah, they don't care. Jack from Ohio Posted April 15, 2015 Report Posted April 15, 2015 Whoever said that the IRS wouldn't be checking these was DEAD WRONG! The IRS is ONLY checking 1095-A recipients. It appears they are checking ALL of them. All others are not being checked for tax year 2014. Will be different for tax year 2015. Quote

Whoever said that the IRS wouldn't be checking these was DEAD WRONG! More questions. Did these returns also have refunds due back to the taxpayers that are being held up until the documents are provided? How long ago were these returns filed? I haven't had any clients receive requests to provide the 1095-A or any other data related to the PTC. I did have a client contacted by the State of PA requesting proof of 529 plan contributions for her grandchildren, but that is a different story. Quote
