Max W Posted April 7, 2015 Report Posted April 7, 2015 Any CA preparers having any problem with an error message (FTB3801) that says "Total Sch C activities must equal amount reported on Sch CA line 12?. The amounts are equal on both forms and yet still get error message. Quote
BulldogTom Posted April 7, 2015 Report Posted April 7, 2015 Yeah, I had that one time before. I can't recall off the top of my head, but it has to do with the way CA 3801 categorizes the passive activities compared to the Fed. I am guessing that you have more than 1 passive activity on the return? In one of the worksheets in the back of the 3801, you have to make an adjustment to the activity to put it on the line that it wants to match up to. It is a pain in the @$$, but once you figure it out, it is a pretty easy fix. Sorry I don't have the software in front of me or I could probably find the area on the form that you need to go to. joanmcq Posted April 7, 2015 Report Posted April 7, 2015 It's a pain because this pops up even when the Sch C activity isn't passive! Never did this before. Quote
Max W Posted April 7, 2015 Author Report Posted April 7, 2015 This client has a Sch C and an E. What I had been trying to do was put both into C, until I noticed that there is a worksheet tab for C, E and F. So, putting the right amount into each tab worked out fine - problem solved. 1 Quote
joanmcq Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 The C shouldn't be an issue, but this error is coming up every time there is a C & an E. I've had a C & E since I started doing taxes. And this issue has NEVER come up until an update about a month ago. Quote
